Assante Chiweshe (b. 2001) is a Johannesburg based, self-taught photographer whose work spans fashion, portraiture, and fine art. She began her career capturing the pulse of local nightlife before developing a practice centered on intimacy, authenticity, and storytelling.
Born to Zimbabwean and Zambian parents, Chiweshe’s work is deeply shaped by her experience as a queer Black woman navigating the intersections of heritage, identity, and belonging. Photography has become both her language and lens, allowing her to explore personal histories while uncovering shared narratives within the people she photographs.
Working fluidly between film and digital formats, she adapts her approach to serve each story, balancing technical precision with an instinctive understanding of human emotion.
Her portfolio includes collaborations with Netflix, Nike, Ellesse, Converse, Showmax South Africa, Wanted Magazine, Standard Bank, Boiler Room, Adidas x Room Studio, and My Friend Ned, among others.
