Lindokuhle Tshabalala (b. 1999) is a visual artist based in Johannesburg and the founder of WaitforGreatness Studios. His practice centers on storytelling rooted in African mythology, spirituality, and symbolism to explore themes of identity, transformation, and self-definition.
Iziqhaza traditional Zulu earrings function as a recurring motif in his work. Tshabalala reinterprets these cultural objects through contemporary forms, using them to express ideas of cultural continuity, reinvention, and the relationship between tradition and modern aesthetics.
Through his chosen mediums, he expands his exploration of heritage, hybridity, and the space between tradition and contemporary life. His work also constructs a vision of power that places people of color at the center of authority, dignity, and representation.
Through layered compositions and symbolic imagery, Tshabalala invites viewers into a dialogue with ancestral memory, future potential, and a world where Black identity stands in full strength.
My work explores spirituality, mythology, cultural identity, and gender. I use color, form, and symbolism to connect history with the contemporary world.
A recurring subject in my work is Iziqhaza traditional Zulu earrings, re imagined through modern designs. They act as a link between ancestry and possibility, shaping visions of transformation and imagined futures.
Through painting, I build narratives that challenge perception and invite reflection. I aim to create images that shift how we see ourselves in relation to heritage, time, gender, and change, placing people of color in positions of power and visibility.
