isambulo

In this series, ISambulo is an undertaking of a reflection of our world today, in contrast according to the book of revelations. I explore the profound moments of clarity and awakening that arise from the depths of personal or collective experience going on in the world. The work navigates the tension between the known and the unknown, knocking on the transformative power of discovering hidden truths, whether they be personal, spiritual, or societal.

Through simply layered compositions and dynamic contrasts of light and shadow, my work reflects the act of unveiling. The use of the bread clip as a symbol of our daily need to survive and a contrast of life as we live it, how we strive in this materialistic world. And thus, the work is a reminder of the biblical passage “Man shall not live on bread alone, but every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

The bread clip is an expressive tool in the mind coupled with fragmented imagery in the eye that evokes the chaotic and yet level pattern often disorienting process of revelation. Each piece reveals layers of meaning, requiring the viewer to engage deeply and yet also simple, looking beyond the surface to uncover the underlying message. That can only be seen and understood by the viewer.

ISambulo draws inspiration from both the biblical concept of revelation and the moments in life where new truths come to light - whether joyful or unsettling. This series touches on themes of spiritual awakening, self-discovery, and social consciousness. I use a combination of mixed media, including oils, printmaking, acrylics and found materials, to reflect the complexity and multi-faceted nature of these moments.

My work aims to provoke thought, challenging viewers to consider their own revelations—what have we uncovered about ourselves, our society, and our world? By blending semi abstract forms with symbolic elements, I hope to open a space for contemplation, where the viewer can interpret and experience their own moments of insight.

Ultimately, ISambulo is a meditation on the power of truth and the beauty that lies in the act of discovery.
